Is FaceBook big in Asia yet? Is it friendster that's taking over?

I think the article is a little overblown. There's lot of average to low money to be had, as well.

Just the other day I learned from a podcast that these social sites' popularity is really different in different areas. I had no idea. Unfortunatley I don't remember which was big where, but it was on a recent episode of Buzz Out Loud (currently one of my favorite podcasts). [ August 10, 2008: Message edited by: Pauline McNamara ]

Also note that the life of a social networking app is short - people get bored with it (there are very few exceptions to the rule).
Monetizing the apps is usually done with ad revenue, yet starting ad heavy is a turnoff. Good luck.

Speaking from an Asian point of view, or at least for me, Friendster is most popular in Asia (in South East maybe). Facebook is slowly climbing up though.

Is anyone here using the iPhone SDK? I looked into it last night, and it's apparently only supported on Intel Macs running Leopard.
I'm not quite ready to replace my "old" PowerBook or iMac (both of which are Power PCs still running Tiger). I wonder if a $599 mini makes sense as a short-term iPhone development toy.

Yes, I've been using it a little. It definitely requires Leopard - there's development tool code in it that requires the update.
I'm using a Mini mostly, and it works fine. (i wish i had a second monitor - but that's life)

yes i would even look into a refurbished macbook (with the intels) for around the same price if your goal is to just play around. and with the hdmi to dvi you can get another display. i just wouldnt suggest it if your goal is to make a profit from iphone apps, but to play around i suggest it because theres alot of other cool stuff in 10.5.

I downloaded the sdk and I like their tools. I just have to learn their language to code. I have a cool idea for an app, just would take too long for me to write.
