JavaScript, VBScript, ActionScript,PHP are all known as scripting languages. Could any one suggest what makes scripting language to be called so.

a scripting language is used when you want dynamic content on a website (user interaction). scripting languages fall into two basic categories, client-side and server-side. as for the origin of the name "scripting" im not certain.
