Hi, is there anyway to disable the "Save As" function under the browser's File's drop down menu?

Thanks in advance,
cathy

Cathy,
Welcome to the JavaRanch! We don't have many rules around the 'Ranch, but we do require your display name to follow the JavaRanch Naming Policy.
You can change it here.

To answer your question: you can't! If it is that important, do not put it on the web!

oops.. thank you for telling me~ ^_^

I have another question then, similar one. Now, in window XP, if you put your mouse over a picture in a browser, it will reveal a button with 4 icons and they are save, print, email, and open my picture folder. Could I also disable that button?

Sorry, I am doing a secure information system. So I am trying to search for solutions. Thank you.

Cathy, this is the web.
What browser does, is it downloads a file from url you provided, parses it, and dowmloads some more files. It is posible for a user to to all that without browser as well - he just need to know the url and page source will provide it. And all that tricky JavaScript could be disabled with the click af a button .
You could hide "convinient" ways of copying information (images and/or text) from your page, but if somebody really want it - it will be available.

If you have some website, that does what you want, I could look at it and tell you how to do that and how to break it.

Thank you.

I see this site, http://www.fy16.com/watch/movie.asp?movieid=10011754
(this site is chinese oriented)
it doesn't allow people to highlight the text. Also, when the mouse put over onto the picture, the button, which I mentioned to my last post, won't appear. If you don't understand which button i am talking about. Please go to http://homepage2.nifty.com/semaimono/j_1.html. Then put your mouse over any picture in the page. Wait for 2 secs or so, a button reveals at the left upper corner of the picture.

So I wonder how that page was done. Can anyone tell me? THank you

thank you.. but........ I can't not ask everyone to disable the image tool bar before they enter into my site. So I believe there is no Javascript can able to do what that site (<http://www.fy16.com/watch/movie.asp?movieid=10011754> did? Probably i will have to use another language to do so?

I am sorry if I drive all you guys crazy.....
