How can I refresh displayed images on a html page without reloading the page

Hi There,

I'm actually building a Portlet (which is an extension of servlet container) to display images (information from database). My problem is that I need to automatically update my Portlet without reloading the whole page (there are 5 other portlets on the portal page.) I'm thinking that maybe I can use javascript to update the display on my Portlet. Does anyone know how to call a java class or a servlet from javascript?

Thanks in advance

If you want to talk to Java then you need to submit the form back. You can use iframes so only portions of the pages are resubmitted, but then you are looking at browser compatibility problems.

Thanks Eric. I've never used iframe. I read somewhere that only IE supports this feature. Is that right?

No, iframes are supported by all modern browsers.
