iam having a web application where i can open only one popup at any time ,from any number of browsers, that means when ever i open a new window it must overwrite the previously opened window.I am using a window.open method in my jsp code, the name's are kept same for the above reason's. Now some times in a few popup code i use "window.opener" property. So at times this value is null and iam not able to proceed. i tried having a global handle for the popup, but that dosent solve the problem, niether did document.write solve the issue. Can some one let me know of any other better solution to the problem.
I have tried a similar approach , but the global variable that you have created , is not acessible by the other parent window, i.e. it's scope is limited to a singal parent , in my case i want a variable with a larger scope. thanks any ways for ur suggestion, but if you can suggest a different approach may be i will get a solution.

You can only control global variables from one window. If you have multiple windows there is no way from them to talk to each other. You are talking a web app. not a client app. You have very limited control here.
