I am creating a user registration system, and I want the sign-in function to work via Ajax, without a page reload. I can achieve this by having the function called to submit my form return false at the end of processing. The problem is that browsers don't seem to offer to remember your user name and password unless the form submission returns true.
Has anyone else come across this issue? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information around about the rules followed by the major browsers in implementing autocomplete features.

You could try posting it to a hidden iframe and see if that works. Not the same effect as the XHR object but still can be done without a total page refresh. Other than that you probably are out of luck.
