What necessary steps I have to take

Not a servlet related question, moving to the HTML and Javascript forum. JUST KIDDING! XP

Well, if you want to have a favicon, you could either make an icon named favicon.ico in the root context of your application or...

put something like this in your page if you want to point to a relative path to your icon

<link rel="icon" href="images/favicon/gmfavicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/favicon/gmfavicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

It only works for firefox for me though... I dunno why it doesn't work with IE... Javaranch's favicon does work with IE...
