javascript: passing control from pop up window to the parent window

I have a jsp page, where I have a window.open() to open another jsp page. When I click on a link,in the pop-up window, I want the next jsp page to be opened in the parent window and the pop up window should close.

I want all sesion information to be retained in the process.

Any ideas on how this can be done!
