I have a select input...with tooltips mentioned in the title attribute.

The tip stays only 5 secs or so...
is there a way to make them stay longer as the mouse is over that option?

That is what the bartender said when a string walked into the bar and tried to order a drink!

Yeah, as Bear said you can not. It is a browser feature and one that we have no control over as developers.

hi Lexi,

yes you can, see http://boxover.swazz.org/

I've used it last year to show very large data in tables.

The problem is Laxi is using a select element with a title attribute and you can not use javascript tooltip on each individual option and be cross browser friendly.

Sorry about that.

I know there is no mouseover event for <option> tag.
(

Reference:
http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_onmouseover.asp

<a>, <address>, <area>, <b>, <bdo>, <big>, <blockquote>, <body>, <button>, <caption>, <cite>, <code>, <dd>, <dfn>, <div>, <dl>, <dt>, <em>, <fieldset>, <form>, <h1> to <h6>, <hr>, <i>, <img>, <input>, <kbd>, <label>, <legend>, <li>, <map>, <ol>, <p>, <pre>, <samp>, <select>, <small>, <span>, <strong>, , , <table>, <tbody>, <td>, <textarea>, <tfoot>, <th>, <thead>, <tr>, <tt>, <ul>, <var>

)

I was just wondering is it possible to implement onmouseover event ( kind of simulate it...) on those option values
inorder to trigger some kind of custom tooltip....to show/to hide..

hope this is clear!

The only way would be to write your own dropdown list control out of a scrollable div and list items, add custom code to be able to select items, and more.

( tooltip on select option stays as long as the mouse hovers it)
I just want to see that in action...

thanks
