I have been working on Java for around 7 years mostly on server and integration. Now I am thinking of moving to UI. I think AJAX is a technology widly going to be used in UI. How Prabhakar's book going to be useful and what all are coved in this?

Nothing against GWT, but if your goal is to learn UI architecture including HTML, Javascript, and Ajax, then using a tool that generates that for you isn't going to teach you much except learning how to use that particular tool. I'd recommend learning the base technologies first. Then decide which framewrok, if any, is right for your purposes.
