Blank Status text for a disabled link

I need to display blank text in status bar for a disabled URL link.
This is the piece of code:
hyperlink.onjouseover=" window.status=''; return true";
Changed 'm' to 'j' in mouse for making this post.
It doesn't seem to work..
Please help..
