Can you be more clear in your spec? XML is not a tool for managing database connections. Do you want to represent the MSAccess query resultset as an XML?

XML is so new, it is hard to find seamless integration support with databases. As far as I know, only Oracle 8i supports actual XML based columns and XML based queries that can be combined with standard SQL.
It is not uncommon to see people writing small utility frameworks that format the resultset of an SQL query into an XML document and vice-versa. That way this utility "patch" will help you achieve some level of transparency. I suggest you give it a shot and write some such thing.
You might want to take a look at XML Databases by Kevin Williams. It has some very interesting and stuff.
Good luck,

While you're there, checkout Oracle XML utilities and Oracle XDK from Oracle technet.
