where can I find basic information on xml what's it about I have know idea what it stands for???

You could also check out
where you will find a basic XML-tutorial.
You'll will find other related tutorials there
as well, like XSL, HTML, JavaScript, ...
The site covers just about everything to do
with web-publications.

"Java and XML" from O'Reilly is a good working book, especially if you are a Java Guy
