How do i know how many msgs i have posted? My profile does not show it...and what is the hierarchy over here? when can anybody become ranch hand or bartender?

On any one of your posts, click on the image. It should open up a profile page and your total number of posts is displayed there.
The hierarchy is greenhorn->ranchhand->bartender->sheriff.
You become a bartender when another bartender/sheriff nominates you in the "voting" process. The same process of meritocracy is used to promote a bartender to a sheriff.

so bottomline is:
a ranchhand should be on the good side of one or more (read all) bartenders and a bartender should be on the good side of one or more (read all) sheriff's....
a greenhorn automatically becomes a ranchhand if (s)he is on the good side of all ranchhands, bartenders and sheriffs....
