Am I able to write an XML file from the beginning using SAX? (beginning = write tags etc from scratch)Or is it only possible to parse the existing XML file with SAX?

You can write a class that generates a complete set of SAX events just as if it was parsing a document and connect it to one of the stock SAX transformers to create output. Thats what Cocoon does - sorry I can't remember the exact class right now.
I’ve looked at a lot of different solutions, and in my humble opinion Aspose is the way to go. Here’s the link: http://aspose.com
