XML Parsing and output using Electric XML

Hy Everyone,
I've trying to get the best xmlparser and so on.
I discoverd that Electric XML parses a xml file very well. But when I consider to just output as xml(text). I saw the '-character at the attributes as the "-character is normally used. Why is this?
I also had some trouble that the   (a xhtml file) was displayed like   . How can I change this? I was using a right dtd-declaration.
But I don't want real validating.
