Tree View from XML

Hi I'm thinking of making an extendable treeview in html, with an xml file as datasource, and serverside html generation.
In the past I've made servlets parsing the xml, and placing spaces and table spans and columns everywhere and nowhere.
But I'm wondering is it possible to achieve with xslt? I think the problem is in expanding and collapsing nodes via http request but maybe there is some clever implementation possbible using xslt/xml/html processing/parsing/whatever?? Does anybody know of examples?
Thnx in Advance.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
