Hi I have been doing some research on AOP / AOD (Aspect Oriented Programming / Development) and was wonderig if Javaranch would be willing to consider a new forum for discussion on this topic. Specifically I would think the discussion could revolve around the aspect/J product from XEROX park. (The only one I know of really). After some initial testing by a group of us at work we feel strongly that this technology is ground shaking. We are also betting (amongst ourselves) that it will be added to the java language in some form within 3 years. Now just to clarify, i'm not asking for the forum to be a moderator but, I will let you know that if you are low on resources I'd be happy to "hold dowwn the farm". P.S. I have avoided posting messages about this in the "other API's" section as this isn't really an API, it's whole new technology. For reference you can see info about this technolgoy here. Aspect/J Homepage AOP Site at Xerox Park. Thanks. ------------------ SOURCE CODE should be SURROUNDED by "code" tags. Click here for an example

Depends on the demand for a forum on this topic.

John , nice to hear from you. Really AOP , SOP are great technologies. But , as you know , you must be very , very thorough in oo technology. the reason , the s/w project fails as people don't know oo technology well , though it is claimed that people know oo technology. But , that is not the truth. otherwise , there would have been great development in c++. if you don't know about the oo technology well , then how can you think about separation of concerns , which is the cornerstone of the aop technology. no doubt it is next big thing. but , you reqire tremendous amount of maturity to adopt aop & to have the people working on aop. As you have seen Xerox park has started the work in 1995 or so on this , but it is in the magazines now ( I think the current issue of JDJ have article on aop. ) i am following about this technology for quite a some time. So , I felt that you require quite mature people to understand & to use this technology. It will be great idea to have this forum. But ,I have mentioned the problems above , which I fear can make the forum dead forum. I feel the forum provided by aspectj site is good at the point of time. Really appriciate your inputs. Would like to have discussion weith you on aop. Your Friendly Bartender Shailesh.
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
