I thought about writing my own but I am new to Java and this would take me a while to write and did not want to spend time reinvnenting wheel. Eclipse has some APIs that might work but I am not Java wise enough to use them.
IBM has a "schema quality checker" SQC tool that is really nice - but $200 per install and my company wants free if we can find it.

Thats' ok, you gotto start somewhere. So, when you say point to a directory, you mean point to a directory of XML source files or XML Schema file or hodge-podge of both?
Also, what kinda feedback are you looking at? A flat file list of filenames with a valid/not valid value or more detailed info? Or Is a bunch of System.out.println (basically printf for the Java challenged) statements.
If you could spell out these requirements....this problem is interesting. I never thought of such a problem before, hence curious. Seems unusally quirky.
