Greetings,
A strange question - if this is a forum on software engineering, then why isn't the forum called software engineering?
I think this a great topic, we can discuss areas of SE such as:
the process for software engineering (ie heavyweight (*UP) vs lightweight (XP - FDD)) - software process improvment, software assessments, software metrics, software science, testing and evaluation.
But i see the topic title as self-limiting in scope.
Just my $.02.

steve , your suggestion is quite good. You see the section itself is Enginnering. In that Sherriff Paul Wheaton has made many forums like oops , uml & now this new forum on process. Right now it is nascent stage, Latter on the scope can definitely be increased ? there is no harm in posting the questions like what is lightweight process ? Heavyweight process ? etc.
My earnest request to Professors like you to participate more in this forum. See the forum should not become dead forum. It is great opp. to discuss topics mentioned by you.
I will definitely pass on the message to Paul Wheaton regarding this. In the mean time you can give your suggesstion in Suggesstions forum.
thank you for valuable suggesstion. I hope you will be great contributor to this forum.

Should we make a general engineering forum to cover stuff that is not covered in the specific engineering forums?

that's is good idea. Since , we are covering the things like RUP , DRUP , XP etc. in this forum , why we shall not have this for General Software Engineering ? Steve is probably pinpointing that. Otherwise , the scope of this forum will be reduced.
what do you feel , Paul ? What actually you meant by General Engineering Forum ? Please elaborate.
