Applets security problem

I am a beginner and i need help........
I have a applet which reads data from a database and transfers the data onto to a txt file.
The applet and the database reside on the same server. There is no problem in getting the database connection. My problem occurs when it writes the txt file back to the same server. It gives the error : access denied ( ..........
I have made the necessary changes in the policy file.
Should I be using the socket method to write the file back?
Thanks in advance for help
