I think there's a serious difference in attitude between XP and CMM. CMM is very much a predictive process following the hard engineering analogy (see
http://www.martinfowler.com/articles/newMethodology.html for what I mean by this). However there's been some interestingly encouraging comments about XP by several CMM folks - Mark Paulk of the SEI is giving a talk at the XP Universe conference (
