The way we approach projects in my company could be improved. One of the processes with the highest buzz factors is XP. I've read Beck's Extreme Programming Explained a while ago and in a couple of ways it seems to fit what we do pretty well. Most of the projects tend to involve small teams and timescales of a few weeks to a few months.
On the other hand, there are number of things about it that do not fit our current practice very well. Pair programming, obviously, although with some evangelization it's happening more now that it did. Aggressive testing is another. Although we obviously test our code we aren't nearly as integral and aggressive as XP is about it. The perception is that it costs rather than saves time. Finally there's frequently quite a bit of pressure on our teams, both in terms of time and in terms of cost. This makes it more difficult to try out "new" things.
Are there any other companies in similar circumstances which have restructured their development model in an XP-like direction? How did you go about it? I know Beck has written about this, but I'd like to hear your experiences.
Any experience with competing lightweight models such as RUP-lite?

Sadly I can't help you very much, as I don't have much experience with XP. :-(
But I would suggest that you post your request at the xp mailing list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/extremeprogramming), there are many helpful people there.
