Requirement gathering doesn't come into any process life cycle. This is just my guess and the logic behind this is, without haing any knowledge about requirement, how can we decide which process we should use for this project.

please comment.

Thanks.

In my mind, a process will tell you "what to do" and "how to do it" in collecting the requirement, or plan for the project.

Deep in my heart, i still believe that requirement gathering is inside the software life cycle. Cos it's a vital point for a project to run. And as you said, it has all the information for the next step throughout the rest of the project. Important decisions like the architectural design, business process and many other are depending on requirement gathering result.

A better way to think of it is requirements eliciation and modeling, not gathering. The word gathering implies that the requirements are merely laying around out there waiting to be picked up, something we know is not true.

At Agile Requirements Modeling I go into requirements in great detail. At http://www.agilemodeling.com/essays/amdd.htm#Figure1 you can see that initial requirements modeling is an explicit part of agile development at the beginning of a project, and that model storming (where you would explore requirements in detail) is an explicit part of projects throughout the lifecycle.

From a RUP point of view the requirements discipline is an explicit part of the overall process, as you can see at http://www.enterpriseunifiedprocess.com/#Figure1 .

Rathi, I'm starting to see a theme play out:

Side question: what is the purpose of listing all of the certification exams you failed, or should we say the certification exams you took since you failed them all. Seems like you would want to pass them and before advertising that, 'speshly if you intend on opening a small software shop. Be sure to let us all know the name of it when you do. We do a good deal of outsourcing and that's a name I will want to be aware of.
