In XP, a release cycle can run many iterations -True or false?

True. Emphasis on "can". The recommended iteration length nowadays is 1 to two weeks; it is not recommended to release less often than every half a year, preferably much more often.

Has anybody run into trouble with too few iterations per release? I hear some smooth running teams release every iteration, or at least very frequently. We weren't so smooth, and I sometimes felt there were not enough iterations to adjust for discovery, observe velocity in a new area, respond to user feedback, etc. Does that ring true for anyone?

What exactly did you experience that made your iterations feel "not smooth"? That is, what problems did you encounter?
