What are some of the tools available for estimating schedule and cost for the project?

Regarding your question, our team recently started to use Planning Poker (using these freebie cards), and until now it seems to work quite well.

Jenny and I are very big fans of Wideband Delphi. We wrote a lot about it, along with basic ideas behind estimation and a few other estimation processes, in our first book, Applied Software Project Management.
