Currently it's around 6.66 billion

Ilja is jokingly referring to the number of people living on earth. By that he's implying that agile methodologies by themselves do not put an upper limit on the team size.

Ulf is right. Sorry if that was too subtle - I just tried to be funny...

Seriously, my personal view is that the bigger the team, the less Agile it naturally *can* be, and the more *important* it is to work hard on making it as Agile as possible.

Why do you ask?

This coming week in Dr. Dobb's Journal we're publishing our 2008 agile adoption survey results. We asked about agile team size, and some people indicated that they've succeeded at teams of 200+. IBM has shipped product into the marketplace with agile teams of over 200 and we currently have several teams around 5-600 doing agile.

My July 2008 column, online the first week of June, describes strategies for organizing agile teams of varying sizes.
