My laptop screen gets all dusty and dirty. I usually just blow it off with a can of air. I am a little weary of using any kind of cleaning solution and cloth but I have no idea about these things. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on the best methods to clean LCD screens without damaging them. Thanks.

Windex on a paper towel works good. There's special thin-film monitor cleaner that I've used for CRT monitors, but for slightly textured laptop screens, Windex works fine. Whatever you do, DON'T spray the screen with a bottle of Windex! I did this to a Powerbook (180?) quite a few years ago. some dripped down into the connector, one quarter of the screen lit brightly for a few seconds, and then that quarter went black -- the panel was toast

Thanks Ernest. I was concerned about the Paper Towel being too course and scratching the surface. But you say you have had no problems with that? Whatever you do, DON'T spray the screen with a bottle of Windex! What? You mean I can't clean my keyboard like that either?

Well, I don't want to be the one to say "Go ahead, do it, it won't hurt" so maybe you should get some other opinions, but I've never seen any problems from this. Note that I'm talking about the soft cottony Bounty type paper towels, not the thinly-sliced tree bark many offices have in the rest room.

that is one of the responsibilities of my job in the computer lab at school. we have special wipes we use for the flat screens. they come individually wrapped in foil. cant remember the name brand, they do smell kind of like windex. we do not use the soap solution we use for everything else.

I never took notes in college. That's how I got a 4.0 the first 2 years, and a 3.5 the second two years.

I tend to have success with an old cotton t-shirt and water.

That was the advice I has given from HP re: my compaq armada. A soft cloth and warm water, no other cleaning agents. Make sure the cloth is wrung out so it doesn't drip and force you to say 'Whoops'
