I am going to be setting up my own mail server at my house pretty soon, and was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion on the different mail servers out there in regards to ease of setup and use, power, reliability, etc. Options I am looking at so far are Sendmail Postfix MS Echange Thanks

Well, I think you might have to broaden your search a little before you narrow it down again. To a large degree it depends what you intend to do with your mail server - things like how often you envisage adding/changing email addresses, how many domains you want to support, whether you want some addresses visible on all domains and some only on specific domains etc. In the meanwhile here are a few more candidates: I think the system I use has qmail ( http://www.qmail.org/top.html and http://cr.yp.to/qmail.html ) under the hood. I really like some of the features of exim ( http://www.exim.org/ ), and I have heard that smail ( http://homepages.tesco.net/~J.deBoynePollard/Reviews/UnixMTSes/smail.html ) is simpler and easier to configure than sendmail. Good luck!

Thanks Frank. I will check out those links. Basically, I am going to have only 1 domain. And I don't plan on adding removing Address very often at all. Basically for me and some friends/collegues. I may have 10 mailboxes total. I wasn't aware of those other servers. What about the Java Mail Server? I can't remember what it is called. How does it fair? Is it even complete?
