Hi All,
Recently bought a new Compaq 2100US laptop (really cheap!) but somehow cannot get rid of the gazzillion pop-up windows that keep on popping up every minute or so & thats been happening from pretty much the first/second day. Somehow, some ad-ware s/w has made it & I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get rid of it PERMANENTLY.
I tried download.com & zdnet.com & downloaded a couple of free softwares... but none helped. Need some serious help here.
Any suggestions?

Try downloading AdAware. That seems to be one of the best.

Spybot is also a useful (and free) tool for getting rid of those nuisances.

Hi,
I tried both - SpyBot as well as AdAware... but it doesn't go away. Windows still keep on popping.
I am on the verge of erasing all data from my hard drive & reinstalling Windows again... ! unless you guys have some more ideas !
thx

Great go ahead I would recommend a fresh windows.
But just in case if you just wanna try you can try the google toolbar that says that it will stop the pop ups. You can various utilities to stop the pop ups. I guess you only have this problem when you are browsing. You can get the toolbar from http://www.google.com.
