I'm a 43yr. old Java newbie enrolled as a Computer Science major at a mid-sized university. Right now, Java is our beginning language, but we'll be moving to C++ soon. My question is: what language is most predominant in the CS field. I've heard different opinions and welcome more. Thanks in advance,

Right now Java is definitive the hottest one. Another alternative is C# (.NET)

Getting exposure to multiple languages is a very good thing to do. Please don't limit yourself to what might currently be popular.
