I'd like an inexpensive PDA for contacts & calendaring, want it small, don't care about cameras, games, mp3, etc. The Z22 looks right on the money but I could maybe get by with even less. Any other recommendations?

I'm not a real expert, but back in my corporate days the thing that ended up being the most important feature to me was not losing my data. So things like ease of backup and restore, and also reliable, predictable battery life and battery changing / recharging became the most important features of all.

Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies. (If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much room.)
