According to this page:
The Core 2 brand refers to a range of Intel's consumer 64-bit dual-core and MCM quad-core CPUs with the x86-64 instruction set

So, can we run 32 bit applications on these processors?
I have JDK 1.6 for 32 bits platforms, should I get the JDK for 64 bits platform?

Try this:

Scaling Enterprise Java on 64-bit Multi-Core X86-Based Servers

All I did was google your post but I find this topic interesting, from a short reading of the cited article: If you have 6 then you already have the capability, what is required to be effective in your question domain is to use jre switches to achieve utilization of what you have already.

If you need help, let me know ... this stuff interests me.

"The differential equations that describe dynamic interactions of power generators are similar to that of the gravitational interplay among celestial bodies, which is chaotic in nature."
