Hi Guys,

One of my friends laptop got infected with the smitfraud/outerinfo trojan/virus/adware and he's having a harrowing time with it for the last couple of days. Does anyone here have any suggestion or experienced it before and removed it successfully?

We tried using Spybot, Kaspersky and McAfee. All the tools can detect it, however they are unable to remove it. We tried spysweeper too, but it requires us to purchase a subscription to remove it, which we dont want to pruchage, unless we know it can quarantine the malicious program.

Thanks for your help.

you can try googling on how to do it... one site that came up was this. I have no idea if it works or not...

There are only two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors

Fred, thanks for the help. I did google on it and found a bunch of links. Only problem is that I dont know if the suggestions provided on these sites are real or just another false link.

I was using one antivirus (AVG free version) and several tools for malicious 'other stuff'

The other apps were CC Cleaner, HijackThis! and Spybot, and I also have several hundred entries in my hosts to disable naughty domains.

Make sure you always download these from the maker, not from a download site. Sometimes they have had spyware added

Tried HijackThis and it came with a log of dll and exe files. Apparently, you have to send the HijackThis team or the support forum and they would then send you a fix for the issue.

So, we are still fighting....

Btw, the bleepingcomputer link did not work.
