Whizlabs installation problem

I just purchased SCJP 5.0 kit and tried to install it. But during the installation process I got this error message,

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Flash.OCX

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5.

Has anyone had this problem before?

It's really frustrating since I'm going to give the exam next week.

Can someone please help me?

Have you contacted the company?

Yes, that was the first thing I did.
No reply from their side yet.

I have one more question, the error message is giving me an option to ignore it and continue with the installation which is not recommended. I tried that also. Application will install but I'm afraid to activate it if incase it fails later because of this error.

Can anyone suggest some solution?

Which OS are you using, and are you installing it in Administrator mode/login?

Also you can ignore and try activating it, there is no harm.

Gitesh,

I'm using Windows XP and the kit is being installed in admin mode. Is it a common problem? I tried to google it but found nothing I could use.

Anyways, I activated it, and it is working fine. Hope it does the same till my exam is done.

Thanks.

Solution on your problem is as follows

Solution to Registration Failed message on PIPS 2005-2006 This message occurs when the PIPS software attempts to register Macromedia Flash but fails.
You will probably need to log in as an administrator.

Solution A:
The most common solution is to register it manually. The instructions are different depending on
the system you are using:

Click the Start button on the Windows Start Bar and select Run
Windows NT, 2000
In the text box type in the following:
regsvr32 C:\WINNT\system32\flash.ocx
(note that there is a space between regsvr32 and the letter C, but nowhere else)

For Windows XP
1. Click the Start button on the Windows Start Bar and select Run
2. In the text box type in the following:
regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\flash.ocx
A message box should appear stating that Flash Registration was successful.
PIPS should now run normally.

Solution B:
Another reason could be that your computer has updated Flash Player on your computer - the new
version is named 'flash8.ocx' (or 8a,8b etc) instead of keeping the standard name of 'flash.ocx'.
The new version has also changed its security settings, so that programs such as PIPS are no
longer allowed to self-register Flash unless the user has enough Administrator privileges
standard users or power users fall foul of these restrictions!

Option 1
If you only have a standard user or power user privileges, the best option is to uninstall Flash 8 for
the moment, so that you may carry out the final PIPS assessments. You will then be able to return
to Flash 8 afterwards.
To uninstall Flash 8, close all other programs (including MSN Messenger, as this uses Flash, too).
Go to: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
and
click run (or save if you need to uninstall Flash on a different computer).
Once this has completed, PIPS should now run, using the previous version of Flash.

Option 2
If you have sufficient administrator privileges, you can still use Flash 8, but the Flash file needs to
be renamed:
1. Click the Start button on the Windows Start Bar and select Run
2. In the text box type in the following:
regsvr32 flash.ocx /u

For Windows XP
3. Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32
4. Rename flash.ocx to flash.old
5. Copy flash8.ocx (or a, b etc if present)
from C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
to C:\Windows\System32\
6. Rename flash8.ocx (or a, b etc) to flash.ocx

For Windows NT, 2000
3. Open My Computer and navigate to C:\WINNT\System32
4. Rename flash.ocx to flash.old
5. Copy flash8.ocx (or a, b etc if present)
from C:\WINNT\System32\Macromed\Flash\
to C:\WINNT\System32\
6. Rename flash8.ocx (or a, b etc) to flash.ocx

For Windows 98, ME
3. Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\System
4. Rename flash.ocx to flash.old
5. Copy flash8.ocx (or a, b etc if present)
from C:\Windows\System\Macromed\Flash\
to C:\Windows\System\
6. Rename flash8.ocx (or a, b etc) to flash.ocx
Then PIPS will work with Flash 8.

Hi,

I had the EXACT same error message during my Whizzlabs SCJP 5.0 installation.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Flash.OCX

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5.

I pressed the ignore button. The installation succeeded and I activated it. But I can only see several white squares on my screen when I run the software! So there is something wrong. My OS is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP2. I am in the Administrative group so I should have all the permissions. I also checked and I only have Flash.ocx (no Flash8.ocx) on my system. Additionally, I downloaded Flash.ocx file from the web in an attempt to fix the problem, but the result was the same.

The Whizzlabs guys are not answering And I'm afraid I have now lost the 1 of 2 licence activations that Whizzlabs give you. I was going to use the other licence on my home machine to study during weekends, as currently I'm doing this on my work machine.

I also tried doing the manual registration: regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\flash.ocx but I got and error message:

DllRegisterServer in C:\windows\system32\flash.ocx failed.
Return code was 0x8002801c

Please help!

Solution as per your problem...

First Uninstall existing flasher player. After that install Macromedia flash then it will work
