Hi,

I'm thinking of purchasing a commercial PDF creation / editor software. I once used Fineprint PDF Factory Pro and liked its feature of being able to have a preview and change my PDF file (and the sequence of the pages/documents in it) before actually printing it, so you don't have to start all over again if you want to make a change.

Is this software still good or are there better alternatives for the same price? I tried PDF Creator but found it to be a little clumsy in usage (and I couldn't find a preview and a possibility to change the document before printing it). The software will be used only for my own personal purposes, is must support Windows Vista x64. Any recommendations?

I use OpenOffice to create PDF's from HTML and DOC sources. Of course, it's a one way street. You can't edit PDF's once they're created.

And it more troublesome if I'd like to add pictures etc. because one had to insert the pictures into an ODF document.

There are open source HTML to PDF convertors. Makes it easy to get it to look right, with images, etc. and then create the PDF.

While the PDF format can be one way, its not impossible to extract the text from it. So its a mostly one-way format. At least the format itself is now open sourced.
