Hi !! I have just installed db2 express edition v 9.After i have installed it i observed that on my system tray an icon representing DB active or database is active is there.i did right click on it from which i got a menu in which a tick mark is there which says something like" start database automatically whenever windows starts" ( i use winXP OS). Then i removed that tick mark so that i could start whenever i want manually ( my idea is that will reduce the burden on memory).but things went wrong there when i next restarted the system i could not find the DB active icon( which is in green color ,shape is in drum shape) which is expected. then i went to start up/db2 expecting that i can see some facility to start db2 manually...well i did not find it !! i thought similar to oracle this will have something like start and stop database!!
but things went wrong there when i next restarted the system i could not find the DB active icon( which is in green color ,shape is in drum shape) which is expected.
This happened because you chose to start the database manually. I haven't worked with DB2 but generally if you go to the installed programs list and find DB2 there, there should be an option to start it. Alternately you can go to the installed directory and look for something like DB.exe or start.bat or something similar. But caution: the second approach is not recommended if you are not sure of anything.
It would be worthy to wait for a more appropriate answer.
