What are the security issues i should consider while deciding on the security mechanism for a web application(more specifically a web service)?
Any pointers to info for the above will be gratefully accepted.

This thread might be helpful.
It includes a link to "Best Practices for Secure Web Development", a short overview on the subject by Razvan Peteanu. It's hardly a comlete solution, but it's a start.
