not personally to moderator though, I know it is some sort of contest where you can improve your chances by participating in this forum. Some people are just making it ridiculous, by providing only half the answers, by answering twice (forgetting something and coming back), by answering for the author, by not answering the question at all. If you do have all the answers why make it so obvious that you do want to win the bookprize. It is annoying

bas, Yes some of the postings are ridiculous. But I've noticed over again and again that winners are decided on the numbers of posts. Obviously volume counts. I wonder if the Javaranch moderators know that holding book competitions in the forums "sometimes" lowers the S/N ratio; ergo the quality of the forum drops.
