Using LDAP with Weblogic 8.1

I am trying to use LDAP to authenticate users and their passwords. The application is hosted on Weblogic 8.1 and the client configures the Weblogic LDAP to their external LDAP server. I am hoping that in my code I dont have to worry which LDAP server the client ends up using etc. If there are any LDAP gurus out there I would like to hear more about how to implement such a solution. Thanks
