I just passed scjp2 with 86% marks.I wish to thank all guys at javaranch.your dicussion forums are just great.though i never actively participated,i learnt a lot from them.
i prepared for this exam for about a month.i went through few of the free mocks mentioned in maha's page.i also went through velmurgans notes.they are really good.what i feel is we need concentrate on our basics .they do test it.and most important be be alert.i feel i could have done better.but iam satisfied with this because in mocks i never scored more than 80%.
some tips for test takers:
In the real test ,you have plenty of time.I had over 50 minutes left.I got 51/59.Questions based on codes are straight forward.
i had 5 questions on overriding/overloading.6 on threads ,very simple ones, those that test your basics-wait(),notify().i had one on join().4 on collection interfaces.in io they test whether you know the valid constructors for streams, readers & writers.1 on garbage collection.i missed that!. 2 questions with conditional if(int value),guys with c/c++ background watch out. simple questions on access specifiers, where and why they are used.
thats all i remember.
last but not the least sleep well the night before the exam.you have to be really alert!!
thanks guys.bye!!

congrats, Rajesh.
I am going to take my exam on 5th Feb, and I had read Patric noughton in the beggining but not from quite some time My preperation is based on R&H only Do you think it would be sufficient.
On the mocks I am getting like 50% to 80%.
please suggest me , How to prepare.
I have JQPluse too.

Thanks every one.
These are some links you will find very useful.Do go through it.
1.Velmurgan's notes-it is best i found. He has spent lot of time and effort to prepare it.Do study them well. And he scored 96%!. http://www.geocities.com/velmurgan_p/
2.Jyothis page: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Network/3693/
3.Dylan Walsh's revision notes.
Study them the day /night before exam. http://indigo.ie/~dywalsh/certification/index.htm
4.some good free mocks-Jxam,jargon,applied reasoning,marcus green's 3 test's and abhilash's tests they test JLS.
at http://www.javaranch.com/mock.jsp.

When you do the mocks concentrate on your mistakes,on topics you did go wrong, brush them up one by one before you write the next mock. This way you will surely do really well.
Wishing you all the best in your exam.
bye.

Geeta, good thinking to buy Jqplus its a good testing tool. make sure you have passed all the exam they had. Some q's are exactly the same. I didn't do it and paid the price!!!(I failed). Like rajesh suggested memories File I/O method signature and contructors. Also, make sure to understand reason when the code will abend (in compile time or runtime). Almost every q's has this option.

Thanks Everyone.I feel that if you are getting consistently above 70,you will do well.I did only the free mocks -jxam,applied reasoning, marcus green and abhilash's.Concentrate on your basics.don't be concerned if u don't do well in the mock.consider it as a learning experience where you can find your shortconings.pay special attention to the topics you have not done well.
Best Wishes .
Bye

i took 2 first marcus exams. On the first i scored 91% and on the second i scored 86% but i didn't do too well on the Jxam i found it hard for me to answer questions that deal with awt concepts. Is there a lot of awt on the test ?
