Hello, Jonathan and congrats. You mentioned that you got position. Do you feel the certification help secure the position and did you have any prior Java coding experience?

Donald, I am 21 and have NO computer-related work experience up until now. I completed a 2-year programming course at a local college. I didn't apply myself AT ALL and couldn't get a job so I did a Java cert. course and wrote my exam and got a job within a week. I feel extremely confident on my demand now. If you plan on writing your cert. and jump into a job paying $100K, it's time to wake up. You'll prob. start off with something half-shitty but just keep looking around for something better. So, to answer your question, I definately feel that this cert. got me this job and will definately help me move up the "corporate ladder" heheh
On a side note, I'm in Newfoundland, Canada and VERY interested in making a move to Ottawa. If anyone lives in Ottawa, can you send me an e-mail. I'd like to get to know the supply-demand up there.

Hi Jonathan,
I am also in Newfoundland! Congrats on passing the exam - I got mine in November just after they changed to the "new" format. Had only ever programmed for 13 weeks of my entire life! Was very glad to pass. There are a few java prosepects happening in Corner Brook. Drop me a line if you feel like talking java here on the rock - Again, congrats!

Ohh Canadians!!
I am from Calgary, and I just landed a job here as a Java Developer / Systems Analyst. It is a awesome job, and pays really well. Newfoundland is growing with regards to IT so its good to see the east coast prosper. Ottawa I hear is not the best place to be right now. There have been many layoffs so there is a sudden influx of people. Wait for a while before making a move. Ottawa sounds really tempting especialy Cognos..
What you guys think?
