Hello Raj,
I am similar to your background. I am a senior in university studying MIS and Computer Science and have been programming Java for 2 years now (just assignments though). However, I have been studying for 2 months (though I work full time, so on and off) and feel that finally I am ready to take the exam. I am passing all of my mock exams and judging from everyone's score, I should pass the real thing also. But I am not acing them and only passing in the mid 80's.
So I would suggest you give yourself at least 2-3 months. If you feel you're ready sooner and are passing the mock exams, then all the better. At
www.jdiscuss.com they have a really good table of people who have passed the real exam and their scores on the mock exams to give you an idea.
