Hi
I passed the exam last week with 66% (a bit dissapointing, but I allways do poorly on the day with exams). I promised myself I would post some information about my experience if I passed so here it is.
Before I started I was unsure about how much time to put into study, what to study, if my background was comparable to other programmers and how the exam would compare with university.
I studied part time after work for 2 months before the exam. I had a little experience with java (about 4 months part time study) before the exam and was working as a web developer using ASP (*sigh*)
My resources included "complete Java 2 Certification" by Simon Roberts et al, and the JWHIZ exam which I purchased one week before the exam, in hind sight that was a little too late. I didnt like Marcus Greens exams so gave them a miss which I now feel was a mistake.
I found the exam to be more similar in format to Marcus greens mock exams than JWhiz. The questions were hard and had I not panicked, I would have recieved a much higher grade. I would personally put the difficulty at about the same as a medium difficulty 200 level university paper.
As far as a comparrison goes with JWHIZ and my actual score goes, I was passing the last JWHIZ mock exams with between 90 and 100%. I definatly reccomend the exam and the roberts et al book. It is an affordable means of getting qualified

If any one wants more personal advice they can contact me at Leonbro@hotmail.com
Finally, a big THANK YOU to the java ranch team.
Cheers from New Zealand
