I was sure I had a pass, but ended up with 57%. I gained 7 points from my first attempt back in May. Here are my results on Aug 16th:
Declarations 62%
Flow Control 42%
Garb Collection 100%
Lang Fund 55%
Operators/assign 57%
Overload/Override 28%
Threads 71%
java.awt 75%
java.lang 100%
java.util 0%
java.io 80%
I got an average of 67% with JQPlus Standard and Random Tests.
I got an average of 62% with Marcus Green Mocks 1 & 2.
I don't remember having any difficult questions other than one with a for loop with a nested loop. Any fresh ideas from the Peanut Gallery?

Sorry, to hear about your results Percy. I know you've put a lot into passing the exam so far. Don't give up. You're so close. I noticed in the Java Util section you scored 0%. If you could have gotten a few of them then you would have passed. Wow! I know this has to be quite dissapointing. The next time you will pass the exam.

I am really sorry for the result, but do not give up and you are so close now. My advice is that go back to the basics and make sure you really understand the concepts. For the mock test I would mainly focus on JQ+ and make sure you understand every questions (not those real brainer questions). Good luck !

Sorry to hear about the result.
I think coding some more programs to test the concepts will produce good results. May be you could select java.util questions from mock exams & attempt them separately so that this section gets proper attention.

dont give up man..If you really want the SCJP you can do it...Im in the same boat as you...my first attempt with about 2 months of studying..I totally bombed it ...my second attempt 2 months later...I almost doubled my score...missed by a few questions...plan on going again soon and passing! ..what Im mostly doing now...is going over my notes(from Khalid, Exam Cram, etc), JQPlus, and coding, coding, and coding. good luck!

Thanks for listening. You guys are great. I knew my fellow Ranchers were supportive of one another. The irony of it all was I got 100% on java.util on the first attempt. Exams and I just don't mix well I guess

Hi Percy,
I completely sympathize.
I took the exam on August 10, and failed by ONE question with a 59%. Ah, the agony of having to take it again! I would much rather have gotten a 61% than to take it again, but I am trying to look at it as an opportunity to learn the material cold.
The percentages I got that day also did not match other diagnostic and mock exams I had taken.
I know how hard it is to look at your score and to think that if you had just answered one or two differently you could have passed!
When will you attempt again? I am thinking I might try next month sometime. Guess I'll just have to bring my notes to Greece with me. Ugh.

When you receive 0% on a topic, sometimes it means there were no questions offered in that area. I recognize that can happen because I received 0% on Garbage Collection, and I am positive there were no questions related to Garbage Collection on my exam.
I agree with the person who said to code examples. Be sure to watch what is happening in the debugger also. I found the JWhiz tests brought a lot of areas to my attention that I had not previously focused on.

Hi Percy:
I am sorry...but your persistence, pls, will pay back eventually. There are people who are very smart at exams. Maybe, you are not really that type, me neither. I know myself since I failed my first attempt just this Sunday. But I do not blame myself given so many distractions. Don't feel so bad since the exam only can not be considered as sole criteria to judge how good you are a programmer. It's just so upset since we have given time and put efforts and sacrifices in order to get it pass.

I am studying Chap 6 of Vel's notes on Objects and Classes. There are soo many rules on the different Inner Classes.

The thing that helped me the most was answering other peoples questions. Even if you dont know the answer and if it'll take an hour to figure it out (it took me over an hour on a few of them). Just looking things up in the JLS, the API, and testing code makes the entire process sink in. After you answer it once it'll be quicker the 2nd time and after a few times you'll only need minimal reference to answer the questions.
Also, as you read, make your own notes in your own words then double check them by refering to other books/sources. I did this every test I took and every chapter I read. Then before every mock test you take read your notes. The repitition alone will make them sink in.
Use as many sources as you can too. Vels' notes are great as well as the marcus' and the ones at JDiscuss. If you want mine I can send those to you too - my ISP took a winger so its not on the web anymore but I can email them too you.
