Hello, I have just completed my computer engg.I have got holidays now I have been selected in a company (through college placements) and my joining date is 20th Nov(i.e. almost 3 months from now) I want to be SCJP(i have been in touch with java since the last 1 year) but i have 2 options: 1.Utilize all 3 months for thorough preparation and try to get in 90's or 2.utilize 1 1/2 or 2 months for preparations and try to pass (not necessarily in 90's) I have heard the certificate just tells u that person has passed,and not what is his score.Then second option is better. But if there is any way in which i can prove my marks then may be first option would be better. Please help me, Thanx a lot for reading this, Best Regards, leena

Leena You can always prove your score by showing them the results printout from the testing center. Then if you do get a good score then you can show it to them. On the other hand, if you don't get a good score you can always just say 'I passed'. How much does your score matter to them if you already have the job? As to how much to study, the best way to improve your score would be to study more, so if it is important that you have a good score then you should study as much as possible. However, if the score is not that important then you should concentrate on things you dont know that you'll be doing in the job. If it is a strictly java job then the SCJP is a great way of showing you understand the basics and the language syntax. If you'll be doing other stuff though, then you may want to study that (servletts, jsp, or even non java stuff you might be expected to know). You could also spend the remaining time trying some practice programs on you own and working through them. Set yourself a realistic project and have at it. Or even better, call the company you'll be going to work for and ask them for advice on what else you could do to prepare for the job. They may be able to steer you in the right direction and maybe even give you some sample/practice projects. Then they also know you're trying to improve yourself for the job too.
