Dear fellow ranchers,
You all wished me and i passed today, a few hours ago.
I was prepared for the exam and deserved it...i think.
First of all let me acknowledge this site. I coded in C/C++ as a student for a few months irregularly and then started a Java more irregularly one year back. Then all on a sudden i started enjoying a java and decided to appear SCJP. But my MSS exam in University kept me away from java for months. Then finishing my exam, i registered in JavaRanch at 5th July and within this 50 days i learnt from here so much that i could not know within my entire 2/3 year's time in IT.
Well in my actual exam there were two wrong questions--one from thread that told me to choose 2 correct answers while there were three correct. Another one had no correct answer. I was pretty preapred for the exam and hoped to score very high. During my exam when i have completed 52 questions the network failed and i got a little bit nervous.... After restarting the machine about half an hour i started the exam again. During this time i was strolling and telling myself -- "cool it man! Among the 52 u have answered already, at least 50 of this correct....so don't worry". But atlast 91% told me that i missed 5 questions....i don't know, how . Anyway, i m ofcourse happy joining the 90s club...
I owe it to JavaRanch!Really!!
This site make you think in Java, but only if you try to answer other people's queries or at leasttry to do. Then Khalid Mughal....excellent. JQ+ is a good tester to judge how did u prepare for the exam. I have gone thru KAM, RHE thoroughly and Ivor Horton's Beginning Java 2, Java 2 The Complete Reference, Exam Prep, Exam Cram, Syngress....and some others. I really enjoyed all of them as i instantly tried to answer most of the questions ofJavaRanch by providing my own thoughts and codes. I must be also grateful to my students and Jane Gricsti, Naveen Sharma, Mohammad Farooq, TVS Sundaram, Gagan Indus, Gaja Venkat, Vanitha, Dave Vick, Tejas, Leena Rane and so many cowhands in this ranch.
I'll give some comments on this exam later as i have to leave now. I m planninging for the developer exam a few months later...
I'll always be in this site...bye today.
Again, I enjoyed ur company guys....

I took the exam today as well. For one of question, it told me to choose two, but I thought there were no correct answer. Do you know how do we verify that?

I m really happy from ur responses in this site and in personal mails!
Before i go to my exam details i should notice that i forgot to mention the name of my Friend Fasial Ahmed, Fazlur Rahman,Wahid Sadik, Moin and this site's Guoqiao, Mariusz for their moral support in my previous list of acknowledgement. Thnx friends.
Quyestions were straight forward according to my expectation. U'll find similar traps the exam s/w will offer u in the mocks. The standard of questions were just like the standard of J@Whiz or slightly easier than JQ+. But many of the questions had 6 answers, some 7/8 answers. There was a question that u have to use sense of designing a program from the scratch. Despite the 2 wrong questions i almost found about 15 to 20 questions that i did not have to read the whole question...i just calculated the answer and picked where are the right option given a,b,c,d or e and did not even read the other choices. Many questions of larger codes like 20 to 25 lines i read only 5 lines and found where the program will not compile. I was so sure about each and every option accept 2 questions among which i had to use POE(process of elimination)! I thought i was close to perfect score but eventually...
Read the constructors of I/O, StringBuffer manipulation, resizing various layout manager, overloading-overriding, thread synchronization, exception handling well....
Time will be no problem man. I finished despite the network problemin 1 hour 20 minutes and revised 35 min before clicking end. The exam s/w is not so beutiful to look at like J@Whiz but is powerful and requires u to click exhibit button to see the codes in half of the codes.
Let me know if u have specific quesries so that i can reply accept the original question as i m bound not to disclose them. C all u soon here again....

Great job done! Congrats!!!
You said: "The exam s/w is not so beutiful to look at like J@Whiz but is powerful and requires u to click exhibit button to see the codes in half of the codes."
How much difference was there. Do i need to worry about anything?
Also how much did you score in various mock exams of jwhiz: specially the diagnostic and final version?
thanks

Hi everybody in this saloon,
Well as far as Rajani and Guoqiao (and possibly TVS)ends their exams let's have a bottle of Shampne Gagan(Jane 1 plz, i don't have much money, but if free then keep it up ). Leena, TVS i'll be in this site...Dave and Gaja i carefully observed ur replies (not only having beer with Jane Man )and found u as accurate as Gagan.
Dear Cristy and Gagan, probably u'll also face one or two questions without correct number of answers or no answers. Two of my friends faced like me and if u search this site in back-date u'll get same complain from some others! Doesn't matter 1/2 qs. Leave it! Thnx Rashmi,Padmaja,Vanitha for interest on me! Mayank, nothing to worry man, the outlook is well enough not to think abt! And of my mocks......OK!
When giving mock, i did not let me any chance to review the answers to see how many mistakes i make due to overlooking...no revision just go from first to last and finish. It resulted in plenty of overlooks though , but i found where r my typical mistakes occurring. But ofcourse, despite of being sure of an answer if i thought that i dont know correctly abt a wrong choice (whether it's relevant with the original answer or not)i marked the question to learn something from that wrong statement. After seeing the score i went thru only the marked and wrong answers. I did not always relied on the mocks' answers, when i had a little doubt on anything and made a code for myself. If my doubt was not cleared thereafter also u were my judge...i posted my confusions and got almost all the confusions cleared by u. Thank u all.

For some theoritical quearies regarding Garbage collection and string handling i went for Ajit Kalambella's back-dated posts along with maha anna (she was then regular here)and for Thrreads Ajit+Rahul Mahindrakar. I found pleasure like discovering pearls from the deep ocean when Ajit commented on something (his many big posts were of more than 50 lines afai remember). I got more interest becz i tried to feel the person behing the message, often saw his/her profile (i have some other personal interest beside Java). I gave my first mock which was J@Whiz at abt 10 days be4 exam scoring 85% (i m not counting Rules Roundup -- it was a nice pleasure to catch the cows and i did not let any single cow strolling outside )and then asked some others whether this is the same standard as real SCJP exam(yes it is!). But the following day I appeared JQ+ 1 70% and then JQ+ 2 65% and was scared . But u fellows told me this is not so bad score initially in JQ+. Then i went for JQ+ 3 very causiously and got 85%. Then i gave Exam Prep (80%), Exam Cram(71%) RHE(80%), J@Whiz(87%) JQ+ 4(81%), Khalid Mughal(73%), JQ+ 5(73%), J@Whiz(91%) and JQ+(85%). 2 days be4 exam i gave Marcus Green 1(90%), the following day MG 2(80%) and just in the exam morning gave MG3(87%). Some of the mocks i gave when travelling in rickshaw (a three-wheel bicycle-type vehicle widely used locally) or in the restaurant while taking tea with friends -- I got this bad habit from my fellow chessmates(i m a professional chessplayer) when we used to play games without boards(mouth-by-mouth)in the tea-stall beside our chess fedaration.
I have unlimited net access in my office which hepled me to post over 300 posts within 1 & half months (my pc remains unworkable every now-and-then ). I was preapred and confident when entering the exam center so was not nervous! It was a pleasure when i could say my friends 2 days ago in a fast-food shop with Burger in my mouth that i m going to do well, (they already titled my SCJP within that time ).
And the rest was u wished me so much in my last post at ranch that i found myself in 90s. I enjoyed the moments be4 and after appearing the exam upto now....

Hi Ashik,
best wishes to your success, you deserve it. All the best for the future.
Ruediger
P.S.: Once upon a time you asked me about strictfp. I hope the following is the right answer to your question (even though I haven't had a beer with Jane, as you advised):
a) a new keyword in Java 2 => RIGHT
b) only usable with class as a modifier => WRONG (also usable with methods)
c) counts accurate floating point values instead of the slight inaccuracies in general floats or doubles => WRONG (strictfp means exactly the contrary, that is: don't use the extended --and therefore more accurate-- float representation)
d) usable with variables as a modifier => WRONG (only usable with classes and methods)

I forgot to mention that in my score sheet they have spelled my name wrongly. Like Muhammad Ashikuzzaman has become Mohammed Ashiquzzaman ...3 mistakes, possibly from Sylvan. I have told my local center to mail them. Another thing is from where should i download my logo?...

Hi Leena,
Well after waiting abt half-an-hour (and contacting with Sylvan in msn with rush ), the test administrator restarted the machine and i started from the same question with the same time (actually 30 seconds more time ) and i finished 59 questions 40 minutes earlier but after review ended the exam 5 minutes earlier. The exam software is intelligent enough and saves the last state of the exam. The exam was downloaded in that morning...and the problem was in the local network not in Sylvan...so don't worry! I think it will not happen in ur case.

Well guys, i recently heard that if there is no correct answer in a question u r sure of(i faced one from access modifier and selected the least ugly option ), then u should leave the question without answering or selecting any option....do anyone know something like this?
Those who r appearing...find the solution (from bartenders/sheriffs)and u may also mail to sun to confirm it....

Congrats Ashik.
Well done.
I also faced the same problem. There was a question with only one corrcet answer, and it asked to mark 2. I think in that case we should mark only the correct ones instead of what is asked in question. But this error should be reported to Sun.

Hi pals,
At last i got the certificate! But again there is a misfortune with me. This time my name was spelled wrong in the certificate as i told earlier in this thread. Now my prometric center has mailed sun to send a new certificate with corrected name....but thal'll take time. But i checked my name at 7th of this month and the name was already corrected in the sun's database. May be some problem with Sylvan database...
The cotepin is nice! And i'll mail the logo form to download get the logo. Hope all SCJP aspirants r preparing well....wish u all very success.
