Hi guys,
Not even a single mock taken and cleared SCJP today .!!!
After the 'marathon mail ' from Andre here is another of similar experiences I had like to share .
I have been a dormant regular visitor on this site , never had the courage to actually write in where people are so strong and well versed with the matter ( i feel like a left foot)
But actually my journey for the cert started here from Javaranch some one month back . Initially I just logged in to check out the experiences so as to make myself in sync (read sink) with them.!! Yes I virtually sank with the kind of mails being posted also at the discussion forum . Almost every day i would log in with the same conclusion --- I CAN'T DO IT !!! probably due to the paucity of time, probably due to the lack of effort . Gradually as I proceeded I found the people whom I was virtually meeting every day cleared the test . And after a few days I started feeling --- I CAN DO IT !!!. Believe it or not this site has done wonders -- I feel the same for others as well I am sure . Just by gathering the inertia ur inspired / motivated .
The task was uphill . My knowledge with Java - elementary -- never done much amount of Java coding beyond constructors lol !! Though I am an Oracle programmer but 3 GL is sure different . 18 days is what I had -- destination SCJP . Knowledge basic . Honed up RHE !!! Tried taking up Marcus Greene ( not as a mock ) found my learning to be disgusting . 10 days left , cant defer the test what to do .
The mantra ---- as the zero hour approaches do the best possible . Was too scared to take the mocks for a simple reason --- If I would score well I would be over confident . If not, I would be lacking the confidence . Took on JQ+ chapter by chapter understood it as a learning tool ---- supplemented with Jane's notes -- they seem to be very best . Last 2 days studied Veena's notes . Incomparable compilation made very lucidly . AT NO STAGE DID I DARE TO CHECK MYSELF WITH A MOCK TEST . Even yesterday night I was checking the qs of RHE !!!
Did pay up a price though . Had to leave some 8 qs unattempted due to non practice ( took some more to assure myself ) . Did not expect to pass during the test and even after it . Have taken 10 tests with SP and this was the worst as I couldnt get any time to revise . Lucky to score 72% though .
In the significant people category of Gagan Indus , Ashik , Cathy Gregory, Anjali Nair, Rupa Bhagur ,Sun , Marcus , Swati ,Jordi , Padmaja ( I have been in Bahrain and was really impressed by the fact that a lady having a 4 year old was so determined !!) 2 people stand apart the first one is MAHA . Definitely she is an icon beyond compare for the pains that she has taken to understand the concepts , and more than that share them with others . I guess she is immortal for this site .In one of her mails she had mentioned --Never Grade yourself with others ' and I would like to highlight that . And the second one is Andre . had I not read this mail of his 2 days back I probably wouldnt have come out successful . Yes I do believe in it ----- Attitude is what matters . If u feel u can do it u can even in impossible conditions .
My advise --- just do it as u feel comfortable -- coding , reading conceptualizing --- all lead to the same thing --comprehension and thats what counts . And just keep on learning , learning and learning --- u can never have enough of it .
Technically Jane's and in the last days Veena's notes are very very substantiative . Dont miss them . Thanks a lot to Jane , Veena and everybody else who helps the others w/o even knowing each other personally . Thats precisely why human beings are distinct as a specie .!!!
This was just a personal experience that might come in handy for someone who is in my kind of shoes . I feel a good majority of the visitors to this site are dormant .
Best wishes
Manasvi
PS Hey I forgot another interesting person on the forum "Lala" .Just read the compliments for Ashok Hey thats a bllody good shot Ashok !!
Just have a word for u lale di jaan --- Had it not been for a person like u I would not have been able to feel what co operation and support means !!! BTW when u score 102% or reach the cover of the Time Mag dont forget to post in !!!

hi!
good to hear that you cleared SCJP.
I myself feel that these mock exams can make you feel very nervous as you tend to judge your performance and if the score
is bad then it can be very unnerving. I am going give SCJP on 15 and after giving sun-g mock-2 exam and getting low score has made me very much nervous that i will be able to get a good score.

Thanks a lot everybody Dave, Ashik, Irene, Padmaja , Gagan (d-uh),Jane , Farooq and all those who are strongly associated with this forum..
Gagan so very nice of u . i never felt that I could receive wishes from people like u or Jane and the like. U all seemed to be so out of bounds . But indeed the feeling of messaging with u people is exhilerating . YES JAVARANCH IS AN ADDICTION .ONE CANNOT LOOSE IT !!! I am sure of that too once a rancher always a rancher !!
Padmaja I was in Bahrain with Microcenter for the whole of 2000. Currently I am at Doha (same as Swati) and just a next nation neighbour to u .
For Suparna and for others too here is some piece of fragemented advise . V all work in constraints -define them for u if good score is one then do it the GAGAN INDUS OR ASHOK KHETAN way . Do it thoroughly and win over the mocks as well . That way u get the satisfacion . However and believe me its true -- u dont need that much if time is a constraint (as inmy case) or exam clearing is a priority .
Make out some time management schedule and attempt the easier ones first , leaving the threads for the last . i lost a lot of time on threads and really got panicky !! Learn from this --PROPER TIME MANAGEMENT IS ESSENTIAL AND VITAL !!
REMEBER TO DO YOUR BEST OR AS MUCH AS U CAN .FOR THATS ALL U CAN DO !!
Manasvi
esp for Suparna -----
Just take on Marcus Greene's mocks or Sun's and dont do it as a mock !!learn every answer and by learn I mean understand clearly .
Read RHE for one more time . Clarify your concepts in deep . Its not necassary to do everything but whatever u do do it 100% Be selective in threads . Just do IO's once on the machine and u will find them a kids play ( I used to dread them once)
After doing that start taking mocks as a learning tool , chap by chap -NOTE DOWN EACH POINT WHERE U FAIL human retention is very weak and remember to go through these points on the final day ( Inmy case I had some 10 pages and on the final day I didnt remeber 1/2 of them )
Then work towards the goal supplementing every day , chapter by chapter day by day . concentrate on the goal . Funny experience I had like to relate -- I was walking on the sidewalk (single bricked) one day and I decided to cross it w/o falling . 10 mins elapsed and I didnt slip which would have been difficult otherwise . swear by that --human mind is very powerful it will automatically guide u to ur destination . And after everything v must obtain we can only try our best , results are out of our hands but do ur best thats the dictum !!!

Congrats Mansvi,
Great you made it, just wondering why you stayed away from participating all this time. Especially, since this is a place where everybody is so friendly, even silly quetions are answered in details very patiently and you do not get typical "RTFM" type answers. In fact, I was so impressed with this attitude of fellow ranchers, that I joined immediately when I dicoverd this site, w/o following usual "lurk before you post" stuff.
Maybe, now you can participate more frequently and help us to solve our problems.
Congrats again and all the best for future.
Regards,
- Manish

hey Manasvi !
Thankxxx soo much for everythin u said bout me n ranchers
c'mon , u r making me feel like high ..uh , am jus one of u , am jus another guy [ and dat too wid jus 13gm of brain LOL , wid 11gm buzy wid bikes/cars/gurlz ..lol ]
( Jane is diff for sure , She put up a whole lot of notes to help other , did lotz of hardwork for others she donno )
( did i scared u a bit? or i did to anyone else ? oh.. am so sorry ! , actually wot i was trying to achieve was to scrae da hell outta myself )
I am lazy to get started , and worst i wont get motivated easily , very hard to do dat, n i somehow 'll only get intermittent bursts of motivation . I continusly need to be motivated .. and ranch is da place where i found nirvana for all those habits.
After seeing others result , i will keep telling myself " I 'll consider myself as failed , if i 'll get less than 85%" .
And yes , mocks scare u , they do , ranchers scar u , they do , khalid/JLS scares u , really . But all these was wht was needed to me , to keep my motivation goin.
Whenever i 'll get less than 85% in a mock/sample q, i ll tell myself "dude , u r dead , u wont get to chat tonight " , and tell u , i died so many times . ( now i also think , taking mocks as learning-tool was better idea , but i kept then for last few dayz )
So , if u see any of my post , where i hav been trying to go too deep into anything , nit-picking , talking too much about things nt directly on certification , U now knw , wht i was doing then . I was scaring da hell outta myself ! , or trying to motivate myself in terms of helping others.
And lastly , i didnt had anything much to do , other than Jcp , so was putting losta time into this in final dayz.
Thank u all ranchers ! for keep moving a work-shy like me

Congratulations Manasvi,
Javaranch indeed is a great place and we all know that. I wld like to share a little incidence with you all ranchers.
After Reading Padmaja Balaji's post about her geographic locations, i had immd mentioned that I live in Doha. One fine day I got a mail from an unknown person(residing in Doha) asking to discuss Java. And I started communicating with that person and enjoyed writing/ receiving mails to/from that person. It was Manasvi Sharma who has cleared his SCJP successfylly!! SO we happened to know each other because of JAVARANCH..!!
( and one more thing which I did not tell Manasvi....Manasvi,because of your name..I had thought you were a Girl... ! thats why when we met first..I cld not speak much..was still in shock...!! Anyways...)

Hey Swati ,
U have spilled the beans !!! I thought I was receiving all these posts due to the mistaken identity !!! No just kidding .
Guys thats the best part of the Ranch . We gather here only for one purpose- to satisfy and supplement our technical reqirements and thats is it . beyond that it does not matter what gender we are from , what nation we are from or frrom religions !!
Wishful thinking --- maybe some day the whole world would become like JAVARANCH and everybody a JavaRancher . 3 cheers for that!!
Cheers Everyone
