I was thinking the Oracle JDeveloper exam? Does anyone have any information on this? Is there a different Oracle exam I should take instead? How about a Weblogic or Websphere certification? Or maybe the SCWCD?
Hi Bob, I'm in the same situation as you... just passed SCPJ2. If you want something "fast" SCWCD maybe one way... it depend how much you know about JSP and servlet. Or you can do the Developer exam!! it sounded cool!

I think it depends on what you want to do it for. What are your plans for the future concerning this? Any direction you want to go, or just collecting a lot of titles for fun?

Hi Bob! Here is the link for JDeveloper exam from Oracle: http://www.oracle.com/education/certification/index.html?java_core.html I think if you have some Oracle back ground it would be a good exam to take. If you want to concentrate your career strictly on Java SCJD would be a good exam to take. SCJD seems very challenging and will cover a lot of Object Oriented concepts and Design Pattern concepts. SCWCD (Sun Certified Web Component Developer) would be good to take if you want to steer your career in the Java Web World. I believe there is a Web Master certification too (not by SUN). I think IBM has a UML/Object Oriented exam. Just my suggestions ... Goodluck in your future endeavors, Brian

Well, here's my situation. I was laid off 3 weeks ago and I want to use my free time constructively. I have 2 years of professional experience writing server side Java components. It seems like potential employers are looking for people with Java experience and Oracle, Websphere, Weblogic, XML, etc. So I would like to focus on somethng that will make me more marketable. I have a great deal of interest in system design/architecture, but I think I should focus on the above mentioned technologies first. Thoughts?

Hi Bob! Sorry to hear about your lay off. Current market conditions just stink. When you say potential employers are looking for Java and Oracle exeperience, do you think they may be looking for a person with Java and SQL experience? I think Oracle certifications related to PL/SQL are very good and so are other Oracle certifications. I don't know how bent are employers on Oracle, I mean would they be satisfied if you were to have a good SQL experience? I don't know the answer ... I am fascinated by the system design/architecture area too and I hope I can some day successfully pass SCJD and SCJA exams (meaning I can study/learn in these two areas). I don't know much about WebSphere/WebLogic, XML seems interesting. Brian
