Hey all,
Well It's offical. I just went throught all our nightmares. I failed by one question. My test consisted of like 15 thread questions i think.
oh well, here's my weak points.
I need SUPER help on util.
plus need help on threads, overloading (suprisingly), and operators.
someone make me feel better.

Don't sweat it, Travis. Obviously, I was burning the wrong incense.
You've taken an important step already - you've identified the parts that you're weakest on. Armed with that - you should be fine. Just write code to practice using those things (like java.util and threads) and, when you think you've got it down, write some more code to practice.
Missing the exam on your first try isn't a big deal. Take it as a learning experience and see how good of a score you can get on the next one. I look forward to seeing you in the SCJP forum!
Corey

Bad luck Travis
You were one person i was rooting for because i saw your email a few weeks ago with your mock scores and found that i was getting around the same as you, so i thought that if you passed i should to.... Anyway one thing i did that you didnt' is buy the JQ+, its a snip at only $20 and for me helped me best in the planning for the exam. E.g. if they ask for 2 answers and they are not obvious then you can work out the answer by working out which of the others are wrong. Most other mocks don't tell you the number of right answers which i found tough as i often put down too many answers. They are also harder questions (apparently) and there are 700 of them so when you are getting 75+ you know you should be ready.
Its my turn tommorrow so we shall see if it helped.
Good luck next time
Sam

Yes this is true. I'm flattered I had some one following my progress just a bit. A warnings about the test,
there were a few questions that made me mad because they question was too ambiguous.
Also, if your using JQ+, you'll probably doing fine. I never got to use it (no cash at all), plus I wanted to prove that JQ+ is not the only door to JCert. So I just need to study on my few subjects, and then hit it again in about two weeks.

Ouch, keep up the faith and better luck next time. Overloading, threading, conversion, and casting are things that you can win/lose a lot of marks on, and since the most important material can be boiled down to a handful of rules I think you should be able to turn the situation around. You didn't mention the last two, so presumably you are ok there; you just need to figure out what you need to learn in the first two.

Good luck Travis. It seems you're pretty close already, so a little more study and you'll pass the test with no problems.

Travis,
That's rough. Focus on what you need to focus on and you'll get it.
Good luck!

I made it by 3 questions. Maybe luck was on my side. I could have easily failed by 1 question. Just think of how much study time you put in to prepare, then allocate more time. There are varying levels of aptitude and people like you (and me) just need to keep studying until we burn it into our brains. Put in enough prep time and you'll pass on your next attempt.

Yes, however, I believe on of my fatal errors was stressing before the test and studying too much. I think I studied 5 different mocks in the hour before the test.
I plan on taking the test Monday the 20th. hopefully things goes better.

I also took the exam on a Monday. I think one of the best things I did was to completely get away from Java for the weekend prior to the exam. I just went out with some friends, relaxed, and did anything I could that didn't involve Java. That really helps you relax and clears your head prior to the exam.
Best of luck,
Corey

Alright guys. This thread was almost dead, but I'm bringing it back to life to say something.
Its Round 2 of Travis vs. SCJP2 exam on Tuesday.
All seats (just one, mine) are sold out. There is no Pay-per-view. It's just man versus compiler.
I intend to bite it's ear off!
Wish me well,
Travis B.
